TOPEKA -- The Hays Larks suffered a rare, non-league loss on Thursday night, losing 10-4 to the Topeka Golden Giants.
Hays dropped to 6-2 in non-league games.
Starter Connor Beer (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits in 51βΡ3 innings. The Golden Giants scored four runs against Beer in the sixth to break up a scoreless game.
Hays scored three in the top of the eighth, on RBI doubles by Brandon Dixon and Cody Gougler an a run-scoring single from Jon Ryan, but Topeka scored six times in the home half. The Larks got a run in the ninth when Gougler walked with the bases loaded.
Hays is now 16-11 overall and 10-9 in the Jayhawk League entering a three-game weekend series with El Dorado at Larks Park. Game time is 7 p.m. each day, with Saturday Larkstoberfest/Old Timers Night.
