DODGE CITY -- The Hays Larks put up 10 hits and gave up just two on the road Wednesday to the Dodge City A's, but still fell 2-0.
Hays (10-5 overall, 7-4 Jayhawk League) left 11 runners on base as Dodge City (8-7, 3-7) scored after its only two hits of the game.
In the sixth inning, the A's led off with a walk offered by Hays starter Jose Gomez. Gomez had a no-hitter going through five innings before Dodge City laid down a bunt single to put runners at first and second following the walk.
Then, Dodge City's first run came on their second hit, an RBI double. Later in the inning, the A's scored on a wild pitch to give Gomez (0-2) the loss.
The Larks got two hits each from Tito Andino, Cam Brown, and Kelton Rule but left at least two runners four times, and left the bases loaded in the fourth.
Hays now returns home for five games this week. The Larks host Colorado in a non-league doubleheader today at 6 p.m., then host Colorado in a single game Friday before playing Liberal twice this weekend.
The loss leaves the Larks in second place in the Jayhawk League standings behind Haysville, which took over first with a win Wednesday against Derby, which fell to third. Haysville is 9-5 in league play, while Derby fell to 7-5.
Saturday is "Poker Run" night at Larks Park as Hays hosts the Liberal Bee Jays, the defending NBC champions.
As part of the festivities, Larks players will be brought onto the field by Harley Davidsons.
Fans on hand will have the opportunity to purchase poker hands for a chance at cash prizes.
