The Rev. Delbert Stanton will retire as senior pastor of First United Methodist Church, Seventh and Ash, effective July 1.

His last Sunday in the pulpit will be this Sunday, and the congregation will conduct a come-and-go reception for Stanton and wife, Donna, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Fellowhip Hall of the church. They request no gifts.

Stanton has been senior pastor at the Hays church since July 2000. During his 30 years in the ministry, he also served the Kansas Methodist churches at Udall, Medicine Lodge, Atwood and WaKeeney-Prairie Home. In addition, Stanton was minister of evangelism at First United Methodist Church, Wichita.

Stanton led New Life Missions and Church Growth Seminars on the district and conference levels of the Kansas West Conference of United Methodist Church.

Stanton is a native of Logan. He graduated from Fort Hays State University with a bachelor's degree in general science and a master's of divinity degree from Oral Roberts University Graduate School of Theology, Tulsa.

Stanton is a member of Hays Rotary Club, treasurer of Ellis County Ministerial Alliance, and a member of the Scholarship Committee of the Dane G. Hansen Foundation, Logan.

The Stantons enjoy traveling, golf and ministry together. They will retire in Hays, and Delbert Stanton will be available as a guest speaker or interim pastor and for other pastoral duties as a retired pastor.
