Luke Schwieterman of Garden City was named this year's Kansas Cattlemen's Association Legacy Award recipient at the 15th Annual KCA Convention.
During the evening banquet, President of the Board, Perry Owens, presented the award to Schwieterman for his leadership, character, and selfless contribution to Kansas Cattlemen's Association and the industry as a whole. He was joined by his dedicated staff and his wonderful family, wife Rena, daughter Lucie Crotts and her family, husband Bret and children Rex, Eleanor, and Charlotte, and daughter Julie Tull and her family, husband Matt and children Emma and Payton.
Luke, President of Schwieterman, Inc. a commodity brokerage firm in Garden City, was born and raised on a farm in Syracuse, Kansas. With roots firmly planted in agriculture, Luke has continuously given back to his communities and advocated for independent producers throughout the state. In 1988, Luke started Schwieterman, Inc. Since then, it has grown to eight brokers with branch offices in Wichita, Ashland, Meade, Hutchinson, and the home office in Garden City, Kansas. In 1997, Luke started Schwieterman Marketing LLC as an additional service to offer his clientele. At Schwieterman Marketing a trained marketing advisor assists farmers in providing written marketing plans. Luke thoroughly enjoys the challenges of business and farming. His favorite saying is, "You get all you want out of life by helping others get all they want."
"There has been only nine other Legacy Award recipients to date, all of them giving more back to the industry than can be expressed by a plaque. Luke, who has always boldly expressed his love for the negotiated markets and the independent cattleman, is very deserving of this recognition. I was very proud to be able to represent KCA in bestowing him with the Legacy Award," stated KCA President Perry Owens.
Luke has been a member of KCA since 1999 and has continuously provided motivation and positive advice to help independent cattlemen achieve their goals. His contribution and dedication to his fellow man is evident through the success stories and affirmations from all of the people he has touched.
