LIBERAL -- The Hays Larks continued their June swoon, losing 13-1 to Liberal in Jayhawk League action Tuesday night.

The Larks (4-6 overall, 1-5 Jayhawk), off to their worst start since 1998, have dropped five of their last six entering tonight's series finale against the Beejays.

In the series opener, Liberal (6-5, 4-3) led 5-1 when it scored six runs in the sixth to blow the game open.

Hays starter Eddie Carl (1-2) allowed nine runs -- five earned -- on eight hits in 51βΡ3 innings. Liberal starter Dylan Hochevar worked eight innings to get the victory, allowing an unearned run on five hits. He walked one and struck out six.

Aaron Mees drove in three runs for Liberal. Hays scored its run in the fourth on an RBI single by Codi Harshman.
