The Western Kansas AARP summit is Thursday at the Fanchon Ballroom in Hays.
The day is scheduled as follows:
Registration and vendor booths open at 8 a.m. Activities get underway at 9:30 a.m. with a welcome and introductions by Alberta Klaus, Hays Mayor Barbara Wasinger and Maren Turner, state AARP director.
At 9:45 a.m., Secretary of State Ron Thornburg will speak on the importance of voting.
Attorney General Steven Six will speak at 10:15 a.m. on domestic violence against seniors.
After a short break at 10:45, Joan Wagnon, Kansas secretary of revenue, will talk about tax programs for seniors.
Hays Postmaster Tom Lippert will follow at 11:30 a.m. with a talk on postal fraud.
At noon is the buffet lunch. At 1:30 p.m., Dave Wilson, state AARP president, will talk about health care and financial security.
At 1:45 p.m., LeAnn Zimmerman of High Plains Mental Health Center will talk about Alzheimer's disease. A break will follow at 2:15 p.m.
Dr. Dan Sanchez of Plainville will talk about the value of drinking water at 2:30 p.m.
At 2:45 p.m., Jeff Burnett, assistant professor of health and human performance at Fort Hays State University, will talk about myths about exercise and diet.
Door prizes will be given away at 3:15 p.m., followed by adjournment.
