Special to The Hays Daily News
Beginning Monday, Celebrate Recovery, a ministry designed to help hurting people overcome life's hurts, habits and hang-ups, will start in Hays.
Trained leaders provide safe, confidential, Christ-centered groups in which people can grow. They offer their stories as fellow travelers on the journey to healing. For more than 20 years, Celebrate Recovery has been proving change is possible by the power of Jesus through this biblical program.
Celebrate Recovery is not only for people with drug or alcohol addictions, it is for anyone with the courage to be honest about wanting to overcome life's obstacles and are willing to open their lives to healing and change.
Unlike other step programs at CR, your identity is not found in your weaknesses or struggles, but is found in the higher power, Jesus Christ.
Celebrate Recovery is a recovery ministry based on biblical principles with a goal to let God work through us in providing his healing power. This allows people to be "changed" spiritually by working through sound biblical principles. Participants open the door by sharing their experiences, strengths and hopes with one another. In addition, they become willing to accept God's grace and forgiveness in solving life's problems. Celebrate Recovery provides a safe place for individuals to begin their journey of breaking out of bondage and into God's grace by helping them to start dealing with their issues.
A hurt, habit or hang-up is something in your life that hinders your walk with God and others -- abuse, abandonment, codependency, divorce, etc.
A habit is an addiction to someone or something -- alcohol, drugs, food, gambling, sex, shopping, smoking, unhealthy relationships, etc.
Hang-ups are negative mental attitudes that are used to cope with people or adversity -- anger, depression, fear, unforgiveness, etc.
Dan and Evelyn Kough recently have moved from Scott City in order to bring this life-changing ministry to Hays and the surrounding areas.
Celebrate Recovery will meet at 7 p.m. Mondays in the gym at Celebration Community Church at Interstate 70 at Exit 157 in Hays.
