Melvin R. Folkers, 84, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital, WaKeeney.
He was born Jan. 19, 1929, in Ness County to Karl and Sophie (Schaefer) Folkers.
He married Gloria Stowe in Ransom in 1949. They moved to the family farm in Trego County, where together they worked the land that has been in the family for generations.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Pamela Davis and Kara Canjura, both of Houston, Karla Currie, Topeka, and Krista Dietz, Tulsa; an honorary son, Jack Wie Sel, Noble, Okla.; a sister, Darlene Hille, Ransom; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a son, Brian Ray Folkers.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Presbyterian Church, WaKeeney; burial in WaKeeney City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney. Masonic rites will follow at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to WaKeeney Presbyterian Church or Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital in care of the funeral home.
