Special to The Hays Daily News
"Radio Divinity: A Heavenly Harmonic Variety Show" will be Nov. 13 at the Fox Pavilion, 1202 Main.
The fundraising show will benefit Divine Mercy Radio, a nonprofit Catholic radio station, which plans to be on the air in the Hays and surrounding areas in November.
The show is being coordinated by Galen Schmidtberger, who serves on Divine Mercy Radio's board of directors.
Schmidtberger is not new to the variety show production, as he performed in Sweet N' Sourkrauts, a popular variety show production which ran yearly from 1977 to 1990. Schmidtberger said the show will feature songs that people heard on the radio during the last 70 years as well as an armed forces salute, a Christmas dedication of "Silent Night" to deceased Kraut performers and patriotic songs dedicated to Armistice Day.
In addition to Schmidtberger, the show will feature Father Kevin Weber and the musical groups Fourstar and Trilogy, and a finale featuring vocalists from area Catholic church choirs.
"The community is pulling talents together in the form of stewardship to raise money making Divine Mercy Radio a reality," Schmidberger said. "I'm hoping people come away and say, 'Hey, that dinner show was really entertaining.' "
The social begins at 5:45 p.m. with dinner at 6:15 p.m. The show will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at Messenger, 2512 Vine, by calling the station at (78) 656-0150 or by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. They also can be purchased through the mail by sending a check to Radio Divinity, c/o Divine Mercy Radio, 108 E. 12th St., Ste. No.1, Hays, KS 67601.
