Henry Watts, Hays AARP Chapter member, recipient of the 2007 Andrus Award, introduced the 2008 Andrus Award recipients, Gerald and Donna Schmitt, Wichita, at the annual Andrus Award for Community Service Volunteer banquet Nov. 12 at Hyatt Regency Hotel, Wichita.

Through their work as co-leaders of AARP's Divided We Fail initiative in Kansas, the Schmitts have traveled the state spreading the message that all Americans should have access to affordable quality health care and lifetime financial security.

David Wilson, volunteer state president, recognized the 2008 Andrus Award nominees from Kansas: Erlene Cares, Parsons; Opal Flinn. Ellis; Keith Guthrie, Inman; Paul A. Miller, Wichita; Fran Porch, Johnson County; and Sterling and Kathleen Woodard, Park City.

Ellis County AARP Chapter members also attended the 2009 AARP planning meeting the following day, focusing on the important issues needing to be addressed concerning seniors in Kansas.
