EL DORADO -- The Hays Larks completed a series sweep of El Dorado Sunday night, beating the Broncos 8-1.
Hays (7-2 overall), second in the Jayhawk League standings behind the Haysville Heat, won its fourth straight to improve to 5-2 in league play. On Saturday night, Hays was an 11-7 winner over El Dorado.
In Sunday's game, Hays starter Cory Jordan pitched seven scoreless innings. Jordan (1-0) allowed three hits, with two walks and six strikeouts in his first start for the Larks. Riley Welch allowed a run in the eighth and Larry Rodriguez pitched a perfect ninth.
The Larks backed Jordan with six runs in the third and two in the sixth. Andrew Heck hit a two-run single in the third. Justin Klusak, Brandon Eckerle and Brian Martin added RBI singles in the inning. In the Hays sixth, Cody Gougler and Klusak led off the inning with back-to-back home runs.
In Saturday's game, Hays got another good performance from its starter, Jacob Booden, and backed him with a 15-hit attack.
Booden (1-0) allowed two runs on four hits in six innings, with one walk and four strikeouts. Andy Lewton gave up five runs in 12βΡ3 innings before Larry Rodriguez came in with nobody on and two outs in the eighth. Rodriguez walked the bases loaded to bring the tying run to the plate before getting out of the inning. Rodriguez struck out the side in the ninth.
The Larks scored five runs in the second to take a 7-0 lead. Cam Brown hit a two-run homer in the first and finished with three RBIs. Heck hit a two-run homer in the fourth. Rob Elliott and Elvin Rodriguez each drove in a pair of runs.
El Dorado dropped to 9-6, 2-6. The Larks will be at home Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Dodge City (9-3, 3-3) Larks Park.
