Special to The Hays Daily News

The Ellis County Ministerial Alliance, partnering with the Wild West Festival committee, will host its fifth-annual Swingin' for Support golf tournament July 3 at Fort Hays Municipal Golf Course.

This is the big fundraiser for the alliance's Second Mile Fund, which assists local Ellis County residents with rent, utilities and other emergency needs.

In 2007, the Ellis County Ministerial Alliance assisted more than 1,100 people in Ellis County with more than $52,000 in emergency aid. The alliance is a United Way supported agency.

Since it's inception, the Ellis County Ministerial Alliance has provided a forum to address the spiritual, social and financial needs in the community while also providing a setting in which clergy and ministering persons in the community can enjoy fellowship.

Not all churches in Ellis County cooperate in the alliance or support it's Second Mile Fund financially, so available funds to assist those in need are often limited.

A traveling trophy for the church that registers the most golfers will be awarded. Golfers can give credit to the church they attend when they sign up

The cost is $40, which includes lunch and prizes for all. Registration is from 8 to 8:30 a.m. July 3, with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. A four-person scramble format will be played, but signing up as a single is encouraged.

Corporate sponsorships of $250 dollars and hole sponsorships of $100 dollars are available.
