EL DORADO -- The Hays Larks opened Jayhawk League play with an 11-1 road loss to the El Dorado Broncos. El Dorado scored five runs in the third inning, four in the fourth and two in the fifth, while Hays tacked on a single run in the seventh. The Larks dropped to 3-2 overall, 0-1 in Jayhawk League play. Travis Lumby (0-1) took the loss, allowing eight runs (four earned) on five hits, four walks and four strikeouts in 32βΡ3 innings.

Grant Gillespie relieved and permitted three runs on four hits in 31βΡ3 innings. Andy Lewton finished with his third shutout inning of the season. The staff earned-run average went from 0.84 to 2.25. The Larks had six hits, none for extra bases, and Sean Wilson drove in the run with a bases loaded walk.

El Dorado (6-2 overall, 3-2 Jayhawk) had five extra base hits, including four doubles and a two-run homer.
