Griffey runner-up for Norton

For the second straight season, Norton's Tawni Griffey finished runner-up at the Class 3-2-1A State Tennis Championships.

Griffey, in the weather-delayed tournament at Hutchinson, lost 6-1, 6-3 in Monday's championship match to Kansas City Christian's Sara Goodwin.

Griffey won two matches, 6-6, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-2 to make the final round. In three seasons at Norton since moving from Wichita, Griffey has won a state title and finished second twice. Osborne's Taylor Noel also competed in the field, finishing in ninth place with a 9-4 win in her final match. Noel suffered a first-round loss before going through the consolation bracket. She finished with a 4-2 record in the tourney.
