La Crosse takes out Hoisington; Victoria, Ellis suffer losses

William Storie had a rushing touchdown and receiving touchdown, while the La Crosse Leopards posted 225 rushing yards and picked up a 34-12 win against visiting Hoisington on Friday. Jack Garcia connected on three TD passes with two in the third quarter to Taylor Yohe for 56 and 12 yards to put the game out of reach.
Garcia finished 6-for-12 on the night for 136 yards passing to five different receivers as La Crosse moved to 2-0. Hoisington fell to 0-2. La Crosse hosts Minneapolis on Friday.
In Victoria, the Knights opened the home portion of their season with a 40-28 loss to St. John (1-1). Victoria (1-1) got a first-quarter, 53-yard TD pass from Sam Ottley to Noah Dreiling, and rallied with 14 points in the third quarter, but scored its final TD with 40 seconds to play.
Ottley finished with 199 yards passing on 15 attempts, and rushed for 28 yards on 19 carries.
Victoria travels to Ness City to take on the undefeated Eagles on Friday. Ness City is coming off a 58-8 win against Macksville and is ranked No. 1 in Eight-Man Division I in the statewide media poll.
In Plainville, the Plainville Cardinals bounced back after last week's 48-18 loss to Philipsburg with a 56-0 rout of MCL foe Ellis. Plainville (1-1) had a 37-0 lead at halftime. Ellis dropped to 0-2 and will travel to Ellinwood on Friday. Plainville travels to Norton, which moved to 2-0 with a 22-7 win against Goodland on the road.
