The Hays Sr. Legion Eagles capped their regular season with a pair of wins Saturday in McPherson. Now, the Eagles set their sights on the Class AAA, Zone Tournament, which begins Tuesday in Dodge City.
After dropping a pair to the Salina Falcons on Thursday at home, the Eagles bounced back with an 8-2 win against McPherson on the road Saturday in a triangular, then defeated Newton 21-13.
Hays, which finished its regular season 26-16, will await the winner between Tuesday's first game between Dodge City and Great Bend. Hays will play the winner at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Saturday, Taylor Renz picked up his first win of the season. Renz (1-0) pitched a complete game as Clayton Basgall led the Hays offense with a double and a home run in the win. The Eagles put up 12 hits and had no errors after committing seven in a doubleheader two days earlier.
"That first game Saturday was just a well-played game," Eagles caoch Mike Jenner said. "We hit the ball well and had no errors and Renz pitched a good game."
Then, against Newton, the Eagles' bats really came alive. Basgall, Jarrett Sanders (2), Chase Young and Landon Leiker all had doubles, and Hayden Hutchison and Dan Bittel added home runs as the Eagles put up 21 runs on 16 hits.

Dodge City and Great Bend will play each other in the 4 p.m. game Tuesday.
The Eagles are 5-0 against Dodge City this season, and haven't played Great Bend.
"On paper, we should have a good chance at winning it," Jenner said. "But, you never know. We've kind of been up-and-down, but if we play like we're capable of, we should be able to get out of there."
Jenner said Hayden Hutchison (6-4) is a likely starter for Tuesday's first game, but that wasn't definite this morning.
