Ellis drops state opener

MARYSVILLE -- The Ellis Legion baseball team was scheduled to play an elimination game this morning after dropping Wednesday's opener at the Class AA state tournament.
Ellis was no-hit by Doniphan County in a 10-0 loss in six innings in the opener. Ellis was to play Beloit this morning.
Ellis (13-8) trailed 2-0 entering the sixth, when Doniphan County scored eight runs.
Jacob Kinderknecht took the loss, giving up seven runs in 5 2/3 innings. Jared Hawkins was the winner. He walked three and struck out 10.
"It was surprising how he shut us down," Ellis coach Rick Cunningham said.
