By The Hays Daily News
Fort Hays State University junior Dwayne Brunson was named the MIAA Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week on Monday after his efforts in the Tigers' wins Wednesday and Saturday against Northwest Missouri State University and University of Nebraska-Kearney, respectively, on the road.

Brunson averaged 22.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals in the two games. He scored a career-high 35 points in the win Saturday against UNK, hitting 14 of 16 from the field with seven rebounds and five blocked shots. He also hit 7 of 7 from the free throw line.

The 35 points was the most in a game for the Tigers since 1998 when Chris Danner scored 36 against Kearney. It was the most points by a Tiger under coach Mark Johnson. The previous high was 34 by Dominique Jones in 2010-11.

Against Northwest Missouri, Brunson scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds.

The Tigers are tied for the lead in the MIAA and travel to Topeka on Friday to take on Washburn University. Game time is 7 p.m.
