FHSU baseball splits pair with UCO

EDMOND, Okla. -- The Fort Hays State University baseball team split a doubleheader with University of Central Oklahoma on Sunday. FHSU won the first game 7-5, but lost the second game, 8-5. Fort Hays now is 6-5 overall, 3-4 MIAA. Fort Hays led 4-0 and 5-2 in the first game. Jesse Hart and Kyle Leroy combined for the victory. Hart moved to 2-0 by going five innings with five hits allowed against seven strikeouts and four walks. Leroy earned his second save of the season.

In the second contest, starter Rob VanCour was knocked out after he allowed four runs in 1.2 innings. Senior ace right-hander Alex Ellison worked five innings and took the loss to fall to 1-2. UCO took an early 2-0 lead, but the Tigers scored four second inning runs to take the lead. Then, the Bronchos tied the game in the bottom of the second with two runs and added single runs in the fourth and the sixth.
