The Fort Hays State University baseball team grabbed an early 4-0 lead Saturday night. Then the Tigers held on late to defeate Wayne State (Neb.) College, 5-3 at Larks Park.

With the win, the TIgers improved to 24-19 on the year, while Wayne State dropped to 26-15.

The two teams are scheduled to wrap up a short series with a 1 p.m. game Sunday at Larks Park. The Tigers scored two runs in the second inning Saturday with an RBI each from Luke Kordsmeier and Jay Sanders, both coming with two outs.

Then, in the third, Ryan Busboom and Brandon Hoefler each singled in a run to make it 4-0.

Starter Shawn Lewick gave up two runs in the fourth inning after loading the bases with no outs. Lewick went five innings to get the win to move to 6-3.

Sanders had added a solo home run in the eighth inning, and Brett Macari pitched the ninth for his seventh save of the season.
