With a University of Central Missouri loss to Washburn on Saturday night, the Fort Hays State University men's basketball team clinched a share of the MIAA regular season championship.
Both the Tigers and Mules finished the season with a 13-5 conference record.
The crown is the first for FHSU in the regular season in the MIAA, but the second conference championship under coach Mark Johnson. The Tigers also won the RMAC championship in 2005-06.
With the finish, FHSU is the top seed for this week's MIAA Tournament in Kansas City, Mo. FHSU has won the tournament one time in Johnson's tenure, in 2010-11 as the No. 2 seed.
The Tigers are slated to play in Thursday's noon quarterfinal game at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, against the winner of Missouri Southern and Emporia State.
The FHSU women are the sixth seed in the tourney, and will play a first-round home game. FHSU takes on Lincoln (Mo.) University on Tuesday in a 7 p.m. start at Gross Memorial Coliseum. If the Tigers win, they will take on Northeastern State (Okla.) University on
Friday in a 8:15 p.m. start in K.C.
