Tigers get OT win

BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The Fort Hays State University football team defeated Southwest Baptist (Mo.) University, 37-34, in overtime Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers moved to 2-5, 2-5 MIAA, while Southwest Baptist fell to 1-6, 1-6 MIAA. Down 31-21, Fort Hays closed the gap to 31-24 on a 36-yard field goal from freshman Drew O'Brien with 5 minutes, 54 seconds left in the game. Then the Tigers had a 19-play, 86-yard drive down to the eight-yard line. Junior quarterback Tarean Austin had to leave the field because of an injury, and backup senior quarterback Anthony Sheppard threw an eight-yard TD pass to Cornelius Gallon with three seconds left to force a tie.
In overtime, SBU kicked a 35-yard field goal to take a 34-31 lead. Then, Fort Hays won the game on a 7-yard pass from Austin to junior Tanner Hageman. The Tigers had more injuries at running back as freshmen Treveon Albert and Addie Brown, but Shaun Ohlde stepped in with 29 carries for 91 yards.
Austin finished 22 of 39 passing for 271 yards for a 3/1 TD/INT. he also rushed 19 times for 57 yards with a TD.
Fort Hays had an 11-point lead in the second half, before SBU battled back to take the 31-21 lead, one score coming on an interception return for a score off Austin.
