Nicholson leads Tigers to win in opener

MARSHALL, Minn. - Craig Nicholson scored a career-high 29 points and led the Fort Hays State University men's basketball team to a season-opening 89-72 victory against host Southwest Minnesota State University in the SW Minnesota State Tournament on Saturday evening.

Nicholson was 7 of 12 from the field and had a 3-pointer, plus finsished 14 of 15 from the free throw line as the Tigers are 1-0.

Carson Konrade chipped in 19 points, finishing 7 of 8 from the floor with five 3-pointers. James Fleming shot 6 of 10 from the floor and added four 3s to finish with 17 points.

Tomislav Gabric also reached double digits in scoring with 13.

The Tigers face Upper Iowa at 2 p.m. today in the tournament. Upper Iowa fell to Northwest Missouri State University in the early game Saturday.

After today, the Tigers will be at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Okla., on Nov. 16
