By The Hays Daily News

With three goals in the second half Friday night, the Fort Hays State University women's soccer team clinched a spot in the MIAA postseason conference tournament.

The Tigers cruised to a 5-1 victory against University of Nebraska-Kearney at FHSU Soccer Stadium. The Tigers (10-6-1 overall, 6-5-1 MIAA) had a 1-0 lead early after Joanne Glynn scored in the seventh minute from the left side, but the Lopers tied it up two minutes later. Fort Hays, though, scored in the 34th minute when Freshman Kylee Loneker knocked one in, the first of four straight goals for the Tigers. Fort Hays had 10 shots (seven in the second half).

Nicole Barnaba improved to 6-2-1 in goal with two saves. The Tigers close the regular season today with an 11 a.m. match today against Western State at FHSU Soccer Stadium.

Tiger men roll

The Fort Hays men's soccer team easily got past Southern Nazarene in Friday's late match of a doubleheader at FHSU Soccer Stadium. The Tigers won 4-0 to end the regular season at 11-4-2 overall and 7-2-1 in MIAA play, tying for third in conference play.

The Tigers scored two goals in less than two minutes late in the first half. Tomas Mares scored in the 36th minute and Austin Clifton scored on a header in the 38th. Fort Hays posted 28 shots, compared to the Crimson Storm's 13. Kent Freund got the shutout, his second of the season, with seven saves.

The Tigers will play in the semfinals of the MIAA tourney at 7 p.m. Thursday against top-seeded Lindenwood.
