WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- The Fort Hays State University softball team blew a late lead in losing its first game of the season.
The Tigers were three outs away from their fifth straight win to start the season, but couldn't protect a 4-0 lead. Abilene Christian scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh -- including a three-run walkoff homer by Erin Gilliland -- to stun Fort Hays 7-4 on Sunday at the Midwestern State Invitational.
Junior starter Maddie Holub allowed no runs on two hits over the first six innings for Fort Hays before faltering in the seventh. Holub (2-1) allowed seven runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings, with seven walks and nine strikeouts.
At the plate, Holub hits her second and third homers of the season and drove in three runs.
