Fort Hays State University senior ace right-hander Maddie Holub accomplished the first perfect game in MIAA annals in nearly a decade. However, Holub isn't the first NCAA Division II pitcher to throw two perfect games in a season, according to NCAA statistics and HDN research.

Holub tossed the first perfect game of her career and the first in Tiger Division II history in a 1-0 victory on April 6 at Tiger Stadium. Then, on Saturday, Holub worked her second straight perfect game in as many starts in a 5-0 home win against Missouri Southern State University.

Holub became the first MIAA pitcher to throw a perfect game since University of Missouri-Rolla's Renee Roberts worked a six-inning perfect game in a 14-0 victory against Green Mountain (Ga.) on March 10, 2004. Roberts had just three strikeouts, while Holub had 17 and 14 strikeouts in her two perfect games.

The last time the MIAA was involved in a perfect game was on March 18, 2009 when Missouri Southern State University lost 7-0 to Cameron (Tex.) and Carrie Harvey.

Quincy (Ill.) University's Torie Bunzell worked two perfect games in 2011, including a perfect game and no-hitter in the same doubleheader against Rockhurst (Mo.) University. As well, Arkansas Tech's Dana Aldrich tossed two perfect games in 2008. Division II has 26 perfect games in the last nine years.

Holub's perfect games have helped Fort Hays move to 35-7, 15-3 MIAA. Fort Hays, ranked No. 14 in NCAA Division II, has tied the school record for wins in a season. The 2003 team finished 35-20.

Holub is 20-1 with a 0.71 earned-run average and ranks second nationally in ERA, fourth in strikeouts per seven innings (11.7) and seventh in victories. FHSU will travel to University of Central Missouri on Friday and Southwest Baptist (Mo.) University on Saturday.
