Fort Hays State University senior Maddie Holub was honored twice this week by the MIAA.

Holub, a TMP-Marian graduate, was named the MIAA Hitter and MIAA Pitcher of the Week. Holub had a good week in the eight games the Tigers played in Florida last week. FHSU finished 6-2, a mark that included two wins against nationally-ranked opponents. Holub hit .464 with five home runs, three doubles, a triple and 10 RBIs. She also scored eight runs. All five of her home runs came in six games at the NTC Spring Tournament in Clermont, Fla.

Holub improved to 7-0 in the circle with four complete games in Florida. She averaged 11.5 strikeouts per seven innings. Through her first 40 innings of this season, Holub did not allow an earned one, then allowed one aginst Wayne State in a 2-1 win.

The Tigers picked up a doubleheader sweep at Newman University on Tuesday in Wichita. Fort Hays won 5-3 in eight innings in the opener, then 6-2 in the nightcap.

The two wins pus the Tigers to 15-3 as they get set to open MIAA play Friday at Emporia State University. The Hornets are the defending conference champion. FHSU then will face Washburn University in Topeka on Saturday.
