FHSU softball goes 1-3 in MIAA weekend

The Fort Hays State University went 1-3 in an MIAA weekend homestand at Tiger Stadium with Emporia State University and Washburn University.

On Friday, the No. 13 Tigers fell in two games to visiting No. 21 Emporia State, then split with Washburn on Saturday.

Fort Hays fell 7-6 in eight innings in Friday's opener, then dropped the nightcap, 8-0.

On Saturday, the Tigers lost 6-3 in the opener, then rebounded with a 4-2 win to cap a 10-game homestand.

FHSU is 15-8 overall and 5-3 in MIAA play, and travels to Arkansas Tech on Wednesday for a doubleheader before playing in Tahlequah, Okla. and Edmond, Okla. against Northeastern State and Central, Okla. on Friday and Saturday.

In Saturday's doubleheader, FHSU had a 2-0 lead on Washburn, but gave up 11 hits to eventually lose 6-3.

Kelsey Kimminau (6-2) pitched 4.2 innings, giving up five runs on nine hits with two strikeouts in the loss. Kaitlyn Kern pitched the final 2.1 innings.

In the nightcap, FHSU used a three-run fifth inning to claim the win. Paxton Duran pitched the complete game, striking out eight. She gave up two runs on six hits. Duran finished 2 for 2 at the plate with a double and an RBI for FHSU.

Bianca Adame was 2 for 4, and Courtney Dobson was 1 for 3 with an RBI double.
