The Fort Hays State University softball team, ranked No. 18 in NCAA Division II, was named the top team in the first Division II
Central Region rankings released Wednesday.

Fort Hays is 32-4 in regional competition, carrying a 35-7 overall record.

The Tigers and Southeastern Oklahoma State, from the Great American Conference, are the top two teams in the region. Southeastern Oklahoma is ranked No. 4 in the nation and stands 36-7 overall.

Fort Hays State has eight more games remaining on its schedule before the MIAA Tournament in Overland Park. Four of those eight games are this weekend on the road with doubleheaders at University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo., and Southwest
Baptist (Mo.) University in Bolivar, Mo.

The top eight teams in each region qualify for the Division II national tournament.
