Tiger tennis falls twice at MIAA tourney

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Fort Hays State University tennis team lost 5-0 Friday in the first round of the MIAA women's tournament at Cooper Tennis Complex.

The TIgers, the No. 8 seed, fell to top-seeded Southwest Baptist (Mo.) University, then dropped their consolation match, 5-1, to University of Nebraska-Kearney, the five seed, on Saturday.

Against SW Baptist, Fort Hays fell in doubles, 8-3, 8-5, 8-2, then dropped matches at No. 1 singles and No. 3 singles to put the match out of reach.

Melissa Skovira and Brittney Ricci lost at No. 1 doubles and Camille Caron-Bedard and Caitlyn Wark lost at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Brianna Watkins and Laura Johnson lost 8-2. Caron-Bedard, 6-1, 6-0 and Wark, 6-0, 6-0 lost at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively to end the dual.

Saturday, the Tigers lone win came from Caron-Bedard and Wark at No. 2 doubles, an 8-5 win against Kearney. The other two doubles teams fell, and Caron-Bedard (6-1, 7-5), Skovira (6-0, 6-2) and Johnson (6-0, 6-1) lost at No. 1, 4 and 5 singles, respectively to end the dual.
