Parker tosses no-hitter in HHS split

DODGE CITY — Hays High School senior pitcher Kade Parker tossed a no-hitter as the Indians picked up a split Tuesday with Dodge City.
Parker (1-0, 1 save) tossed the complete game in a 5-0 Game 2 victory. He walked one and struck out seven with one Indian error. Dodge City won the first game, 2-1.
Hays High is 2-2, 1-1 in WAC play.
In the opener, Dodge City took a 1-0 lead in the first inning off Indian senior starter Layne Downing (0-2), but Hays High tied it up in the fourth with a Downing solo home run.
Dodge City pushed the game-winning run across in the bottom of the seventh inning after a throwing error put a runner on base with one out.
Downing took the loss in the complete game. He gave up two runs (one earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts and four walks.
In the nightcap, Hays High got two hits each from Cole Schumacher, Parker and Marcus Altman, while Schumacher scored two runs in the leadoff spot. Schumacher, Downing and Dalton Stout each drove in a run.
Hays High is off until Tuesday when it travels to Junction City for a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
