SALINA -- The Hays High School baseball team swept a doubleheader from Salina South Friday, winning the opener 7-4 and taking the second game 9-3.
Senior right-hander Austin Unrein scattered five hits in pitching a complete game in the opener. Unrein (2-0) had four walks and six strikeouts.
Hays High trailed 3-0 before scoring five runs in the fourth and two in the fifth. Junior Hayden Hutchison belted a two-run double in the fourth. Seniors Trevor Henningsen and Taylor Renz also doubled in runs and senior Chase Young had an RBI single in the fourth. Henningsen added a two-run single in the fifth.
Hutchison (2-0) pitched a complete game in the nightcap, allowing five hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Hays High (4-0) trailed 2-1 before scoring three runs in the third and four in the fourth to blow the game open.
After Hutchison hit an RBI single in the first, junior Zach Legleiter walked with the bases loaded in the third, and the Indians also scored in the inning on Renz's fielder's choice and an RBI single by junior Chandler Rule.
In the HHS fourth, Legleiter hit a two-run double and Renz tripled in two runs.
