WICHITA -- The Hays High School boys' swimming team had a good day at Friday's Last Chance Invitational at Wichita East.
The Indians had two first-place showings, three runner-up finishes, two thirds and one fifth at the meet, which gives swimmers another chance to qualify for state.
Senior Trever Rohn won the 100-yard freestyle in 54.31 seconds and was third in the 50 free (24.24). Senior Nathan Adams swam on the first-place medley relay and was second in the 200 IM in 2:18.00 and third in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.91. Rohn also was on the medley relay, as were juniors Connor Hess and Derek Drees. Drees also took second in the 100 butterfly (1:00.35), while Hess was fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:05.61).
Junior Blake Mathews finished second in the 200 free (1:57.64) and third in the 500 free (54.31).
Hays High's qualifiers for Friday and Saturday's Class 5-4-3-2-1A state meet in Topeka are Drees and in the 50 free and 100 butterfly, Mathews in the 200 free, Rohn in the 50 free, the medley relay, 200 free relay and 400 free relay.
Other Hays High swimmers have consideration times; HHS will find out Monday afternoon if any additional swimmers qualify.
