HHS swimming opens season at Salina

SALINA -- The Hays High School boys' swim team opened its season on Thursday at Salina South, taking fifth place with 195 points. Salina Central took first with 337 points, followed closely by Salina South's 327 points.

Junior Morgan Mathews punched his ticket to state by finishing first in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 59.91 seconds. Senior Tommaso Consiglio took first place in the 100-meter freestyle in 54.95 seconds, putting him into state consideration.

Mathews also took second in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 24.73 seconds, putting him into state consideration.

The 400-meter freestyle relay team of Consiglio, Mathews, sophomore Benjamin Morley and junior Benjamin Rajewski gained state consideration with a third-place finish in 3 minutes, 57.77 seconds.

The 200-meter medley relay team of Morley, Mathews, Consiglio and senior Austin Chambers took fith in 2 minutes, 00.49 seconds for state consideration.

The Indians will compete at Maize on Saturday.
