PARK CITY -- Hays High's Preston Weigel opened defense of his state title with impressive wins over Austin McBee of Blue Valley South by a pin at 0:53 and then a technical fall 15-0 victory over Tommy Marquez of Wichita Bishop Carroll.

Weigel was to face Sage Eckman of Emporia in today's 9 a.m. semifinals.

The remainder of the Indians' wrestlers didn't fare quite as well.

Leroy Franco and Kyler Myers each won an opening round match before falling in their respective quarterfinal bouts at 152 and 170 pounds.

Franco defeated Mason Ray, 9-6, before dropping a 7-6 decision to Matt McWhorter of Blue Valley Southwest.

Myers earned a 9-6 decision over Bryson Teufel of Arkansas City in his first bout but was pinned by Bryant Guillen of Topeka Seaman in the quarters.

Jake Sedbrook lost his opening match by a 13-5 major decision but came back to defeat Damian Herrera of Emporia, 3-1, in the consolation bracket.
