The Hoxie High School football team will host undefeated Greensburg-Kiowa County at 3 p.m. Saturday in an Eight-Man Division I second-round playoff game. Hoxie, led by head coach Lance Baar, is 9-1 this season with its only loss coming against Sharon Springs-Wallace County 36-28 in Week 2.

The Indians have since won eight straight, including a 54-28 win over then undefeated Atwood-Rawlins County in the season finale, and Tuesday's playoff-opening win over Spearville, 44-36.

Kiowa County has been one of the bigger surprises statewide this season. The Mavericks have only fielded a football team since 2010 after the school was built. In the first three years under coach Clint Young, Kiowa County went 13-15, its best season coming a year ago at 6-4. Last season also marked the first ever playoff appearance for the Mavericks, an opening-round loss to Solomon.

The Mavericks got their revenge this season by beating Solomon 50-14 on Tuesday in the first round of the state playoffs. Kiowa County is 10-0 and has outscored opponents 510 to 102, although it came against the 44th-ranked schedule in the classification, according to preppowerindex.com.

Kiowa County is ranked the No. 2 team in Eight Man Division I in the statewide media poll, behind only Osborne. Hoxie is receiving votes in the same poll.
