Hurricanes compete in Scott City, Derby

SCOTT CITY -- The Hays Hurricanes club swim team had six swimmers and one relay team finish in the top five at a swim meet in Scott City on Saturday.

Amelia Jaeger, age 10, finished first in five different events: 50 free, 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke, 100 IM and 100 free. Ana Goodlett, a sophomore-to-be on the Hays High School swim team, had second-place finishes in the 100 backstroke, 100 breastroke, 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle, with a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle.

Also competing in Scott City were Sierra Eichman, 10, in the 500 free (5th); Yesenia Maldonado, 12, in the 50 free (5th), 50 butterfly (4th), 50 backstroke (3rd) and 100 free (5th); Emilee Pfannenstiel, 13, in the 50 free (5th), 100 fly (4th) and 100 backstroke (5th); and Elizabeth Thomas, 11, in the 50 breaststroke (4th).

The girls' 200 relay team of Pfannenstiel, Eichman, Maldonado and Goodlett took third.

The Hurricanes also had three swimmers finish with top-five places at a meet in Derby over the weekend. Isaac Smith, 12, paced the group with first-place finishes in eight different events and one runner-up. Megan Flavin, 12, and Zachary Smith, 9, also finished with multiple top-five finishes.

The Hurricanes will next compete in Leoti on Saturday. Their home swim meet will take place on June 21.
