MANHATTAN -- After a 3-pointer cost her Kansas women a victory at the end of regulation and another gave the Jayhawks new life by forcing a second extra period, Bonnie Henrickson had seen enough.

She put her twin post players to work on the low block and Kansas State had no answer.

With Carolyn Davis and Chelsea Gardner combining for eight points to start the second overtime, the Jayhawks finally got the separation they needed Saturday afternoon to escape Bramlage Coliseum with a frantic 89-80 victory over K-State.

Davis scored 29 points and grabbed nine rebounds while Gardner had 19 points to give KU a sweep of the season series. The Jayhawks improved to 14-6 overall, 5-4 in the Big 12 while K-State fell to 12-9, 3-6.

Henrickson moved her posts, both listed at 6-foot-3, inside after a 28-28 first half, but it really took hold in the second overtime. First the Jayhawks got it inside to Davis, and after a defensive stop found Gardner down low.

Mariah White got two points back from the foul line for K-State, but Davis answered with two free throws and Gardner with a steal and layup for an 82-76 advantage.

"I think it was big for us the second overtime to get the tip and score, and score again to get up four," Henrickson said. "I think that might have been our biggest lead of the game."

The Jayhawks moved Davis and Gardner inside to start the second half with the intention of exploiting their size advantage.

"(It was) by design," Henrickson said, calling it "making the most of taking advantage where our advantages were.

"I'm proud of our kids to find a way to find some toughness, get some stops and find some defensive rebounds."

The Jayhawks had a chance to win in regulation, leading 61-59 with CeCe Harper at the free-throw line and 37.2 seconds left. But Harper missed the second foul shot and with 22.5 seconds to go K-State's Brianna Craig drilled a 3-pointer from the left wing to even it at 62.

KU had two shots, but Harper missed in the lane and Gardner couldn't stick the rebound back, forcing overtime.

With 22.2 seconds left in the first extra period, Haley Texada's two free throws put K-State up 74-71 and KU called time. The Jayhawks missed in the lane but got the ball out of bounds at 11.9 seconds, getting it to Angel Goodrich for a 3-pointer at the six-second mark.

Texada got to the lane but missed for the Wildcats.

"This I game tonight I felt came down to playmaking on the defensive and offensive end of the floor," K-State coach Deb Patterson said. "KU made more plays.

"They stepped up and were more accountable and aggressive in key possessions that really mattered down the stretch as it relates to winning games in the Big 12."

K-State, with no available player taller than 5-11, hung with the Wildcats by going at the taller Jayhawks inside as Texada scored 21 points and Mariah White 18 from their guard spots. They also battled KU to a 47-47 rebounding standoff.

"(The goal was) just to attack the rim and whatever is open, take it," said the 5-7 White, who was 7 of 9 from the field, grabbed 12 rebounds and had six assists. "We just do what the defense gives us."

In the end, that's what KU did as well with Davis and Gardner.

"Coach Bonnie told both of us that we needed to sit down, so we sat down and waited for the basketball," said Gardner, who was 8 of 9 from the floor and made three of her four free throws.

The Jayhawks shot 47.9 percent from the field and were 17 of 22 from the line. K-State shot just 33.3 percent but made 18 of 23 free throws and hit eight 3-pointers.

What irked Patterson most was the 3-pointer the Wildcats gave up in the first overtime.

"At the end of the game they needed a three and we gave up the three," she said. "They made plays on the inside, so it's a mystery to me why we wouldn't guard the perimeter after giving up the inside the entire game and that's what we did."

In addition to Davis and Gardner, KU got 12 points from Monica Engelman, including four free throws in the last 37 seconds of the second overtime. Goodrich and Asia Boyd added 11 points each.

Craig and Brittany Chambers had 14 points each for K-State, but were a combined 10 of 42 from the field. Chantay Caron had 11 points.
