LIBERAL — After rallying with three runs in the fifth inning to tie the game, the Hays Larks lost 6-4 Saturday night on the road against the Liberal Bee Jays in Jayhawk League action.

The Larks had fallen down 4-1 after Liberal scored two runs in the fourth, but rallied with three runs in the fifth on a three-run home run by Ty Detmer with one out.

Liberal, though, scored a run each in the sixth and eighth innings to pull away.

Starter Jake Fromson took the loss for Hays in 5.1 innings. He gave up five runs (four earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts and no walks.

The loss dropped Hays to 16-10 overall and 12-10 in league play. Liberal improved to 15-13 overall and 9-13 in the Jayhawk.

Detmer finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs, and Kevin Czarnecki drove in the other Larks’ run in the fourth. He finished 2 for 4.

The two teams wrap up a two-game set with a 7 p.m. game Sunday at Brent Gould Field. The Larks return home Tuesday against Liberal to start a four-game home stretch.
