WELLINGTON --  The Hays Larks scored 10 runs in the final three innings to erase a 3-2 deficit, and claim a 12-3 Jayhawk League win Friday night against the Wellington Heat.

Hays (11-1 overall, 7-1 JL) won its eighth straight, and took a two-game lead in the league standings over Wellington (9-3, 5-3)

Aaron Cornell, a third-year playing in his fourth game of the summer, had a big game. Cornell went 3 for 6 with four RBIs and had a two-run home run in the third inning.

Wellington, though, came back to take the lead with two runs in the third and the go-ahead in the fourth.

Jason Zgardowski picked up his second win in as many starts. He pitched six innings and allowed three earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

DJ Carr picked up his first save of the season with three scoreless innings as Hays pulled away.

Cornell's two-run double in the seventh inning put the Larks up 4-3. The hit scored Josh White and Zair Koeiman. Clayton Garland also had an RBI in the inning.

In the ninth, Hays exploded for seven runs on five hits. White had a two-RBI single, along with Taylor Petersen.

The two teams wrap up their three-game series with a 7 p.m. game Sunday. Hays is at home Tuesday and Wednesday against Liberal.
