Larks win ninth straight

WELLINGTON — The Hays Larks jumped on Wellington early, then held on for a 8-5 win Saturday in Jayhawk League action.

The win, the Larks' ninth straight, gives them a three-game lead on the field in the league heading into today's series finale with the Heat.

Nick Goza pitched six scoreless innings in the start for the victory, and

Dalton Viner pitched three innings for his first save of the season. Viner allowed all five Wellington runs as the Heat rallied with three runs in the seventh and two in the ninth.

Hays (12-1, 8-1 JL) blew the game open with five runs in the third inning.

Josh White and Desmond Roberts each had a two-RBI double in the inning. Roberts was 2 for 4 in the game with two runs scored and first baseman Cody

Daily finished 3 for 4. In the leadoff spot, Aaron Cornell finished 2 for
5.

Wellington (9-5, 5-4) had seven hits. Goza (2-0) surrendered three hits and four walks and struck out three. Viner had four walks and four strikeouts.

He is one of three Larks with a save this season. All three saves have come in the last three games.
