Jayhawk League update

By The Hays Daily News
The Hays Larks could now possibly need two wins to wrap up the 2013 Jayhawk League Championship.

Hays (29-11 overall, 21-10 Jayhawk League) sits two games ahead of Wellington in the league standings, but Wellington has 19 wins. It was announced this morning Wellington (28-12, 19-12) would make up a rainout from earlier in the season with the El Dorado Broncos (24-14, 18-13). Plus, the Heat have a game Thursday with the Derby Twins.

If Wellington were to get three wins and the Larks win twice against Dodge City, the two teams tie, and the league would go to a tiebreaker. If Wellington loses one of its games, one win for the Larks would seal it.

Hays plays at 7 p.m. today in Dodge City, then closes the regular season at home against the A's on Thursday. The Larks can finish no worse than second, and have already secured a berth in the “Championship Week” of the National Baseball Congress World Series. El Dorado, with two wins against the Heat today could possibly take the league's second spot, and force Wellington to play in the first week of the tournament.

If Hays wins out, the Larks are the league champions for the second straight season.

The league picture will either become more clear or more murky, depending on what happens in today's games.
