Phillipsburg, La Crosse roll to 3-0; Ellis picks up first win

PHILLIPSBURG -- Junior fullback Michael Dusin scored twice from 3 and 10 yards out, helping Phillipsburg cruise past Oakley, 54-6, helping the Panthers stay unbeaten on the season. The Panthers scored six rushing touchdowns, with two also coming from junior Hunter Kohler. Senior kicker Justin Juenemann finished 6-of-7 on point-after attempts, and connected on field goals of 24 and 45 yards. The Panthers travel to Smith Center on Friday. Oakley hosts Syracuse.

At Minneapolis, La Crosse senior Levi Morss had a big game with 191 rushing yards and a touchdown, while senior Kip Keeley scored four total touchdowns (2 rushing, 2 receiving), as La Crosse handled the Lions, 39-7. Sophomore quarterback Jack Garcia connected on 10 of 14 passing attempts for 200 yards and two scores. Keeley had 119 yards receiving. La Crosse (3-0) hooks up with Plainville (2-1) on the road Friday.

Plainville topped Norton to hand the Bluejays their first loss Friday. The Cardinals scored a late TD to claim a 22-14 win.

In Ellinwood, Ellis (1-2) picked up its first victory, defeating the Eagles, 40-18. The Railers host 3-0 Larned in action Friday.

At WaKeeney, the Trego Golden Eagles suffered their first setback of the season, falling to perennial contender Jetmore-Hodgeman Co., 38-16. Trego (2-1) led 8-0 after the first quarter, but Hodgeman Co. (2-1) scored 28 unanswered through the next two-plus quarters to pull away.

At Hoxie, the Indians moved to 2-1 with a 56-22 win against Otis-Bison. Quarterback Chase Kennedy had 154 rushing yards and 95 passing yards in the victory.
