TMP, HHS runners compete in state

LAWRENCE -- The Thomas More Prep-Marian boys' cross country team finished fifth Saturday in the Class 3A state championship meet at Rim Rock Farm.

The Monarchs scored 145 points in fifth while Hesston won the team crown with 88 points. Norton also took a team and finished 10th with 194 points.

Sophomore Andrew Hess paced the Monarchs with a 12th-place all-state finish, covering the 5K Rim Rock in 17 minutes, 49.12 seconds. Beloit standout Alex Conn won the individual title in 16:24.35. Phillipsburg junior Wyatt Ratzlaff was third in 16:54.03.

TMP sophomore Ricky Hockett and senior Austin Dinkel were the Monarchs' next best finishers. Hockey finished 43rd in 18:43.52, while Dinkel was 44th in 18:43.90.

The Norton girls earned a team trophy by finishing second with 81 points, three back of state champion Douglass. Junior Sierra Griffith paced the Bluejays with a 12th-place medal. She covered the 4K course in 16:49.92. Osage City junior Aundrea Koger won the individual crown in 15:47.93.

Class 5A

Hays High School freshman Marie Reveles finished 62nd in her first visit to Rim Rock. Reveles finished in 17:26.96. Also competing, HHS sophomore Haley George was 75th in 17:55.70. Hays High's lone qualifier for the boys' race, freshman Zachary Hopp, finished 51st, running a 17:53.08. Blue Valley Southwest sophomore Tristan Eastham won the title in 16:05.59.
