HHS, TMP swimmmers compete at Salina South

SALINA -- The Hays High School swimming team finished sixth out of 11 teams Friday at the Salina South Invitational.

Garden City, Salina South and Great Bend took the top places. Thomas More Prep-Marian finished 11th.

Senior Courtney Hess led the way for the Indians with a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 19.45 seconds.

Hess also was seventh in the 500-yard freestyle in 6:24.30, and she was a member of the sixth-place 400-yard freestyle relay. The relay finished in 4:37.58 and included Hess, sophomore Emily McPherson, junior Mackenzie Lewis and senior Courtney Kaba.

TMP senior Maria Marcotte was the Monarchs' top finisher. She was 11th in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:08.97 and 14th in the 200-yard IM in 2:59.43.

The Monarchs' top finish in a relay was in the 400 freestyle relay, placing 14th in 5:04.72. The relay included Marcotte, Cheyenne Ellard, Chloe Zimmerman and Laura Krug.
