By The Hays Daily News

La CROSSE -- In something reminiscent of the North Carolina State men's basketball team's 1983 NCAA national championship, the Stockton High School boys' basketball team used an unintentional alley-oop to claim a win Tuesday night against La Crosse High School on the Leopards' home court.

Stockton led by double-figures most of the game -- including a 10-0 advantage to start the contest -- before La Crosse got things rolling in the second half.

The Leopards rallied back to take a 57-56 lead in the waning seconds when senior Derrick Depperschmidt hit a long 3-pointer.

Stockton junior Reed Stephens raced the ball down the court after the inbound pass before finding sophomore Justin Wiltfong down low. Wiltfong was fouled on his shot attempt with 5.3 seconds remaining.

Wiltfong made the second of two free throws to tie the game at 57. La Crosse tried to inbound the ball to mid-court, but Wiltfong was able to get a deflection.

The ball bounced to Stephens, who hoisted a shot just shy of the mid-court line that was well off the mark.

But senior Koby Beougher collected the ball in the air, put up a quick shot before coming back down to the court and banked it in for the two-point victory as time expired.

Sheldon Schmidt led La Crosse with 19 points, while Jaden Williams scored 20 for Stockton. Koby Beougher added 18 and Wiltfong 11.
