GOODLAND --  The Thomas More Prep-Marian baseball team swept Goodland on the road Friday, winning 11-8 and 11-2. Game 1 was highlighted by an explosive, seven-run fourth inning from the Monarchs.

TMP scored three runs in the first inning of Game 1, all coming off a 3-run home run by sophomore Justin Pfeifer. Goodland came back with three runs in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game, all three runs coming with two outs.

Trailing 4-3 heading to the top of the fourth, the Monarchs put seven more runs on the board, aided by multiple walks and fielding mistakes by Goodland.

Goodland would get no closer than three runs the rest of the game.

Junior Liam Stults got the win for TMP despite giving up nine hits, seven runs and walking five batters in five innings of work. Sophomore Ricky Hockett earned the save by pitching the final two innings, giving up two hits, one run and strking out four batters.

Pfeifer led the Monarchs with five RBI on two hits.

Game 2 saw a strong pitching performance from senior Cameron Brin, who pitched all seven innings. He allowed six hits and two earned runs, striking out six batters while not giving up a walk.

TMP jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning and extended it to 4-0 after two innings. The Monarchs then pulled away in the fourth with a four-run inning to lead 8-0. TMP led 9-0 in the bottom of the sixth when Goodland got its only runs of the game off a two-run home run.

TMP outhit Goodland 14-6 in Game 2, led by three RBIs from senior Jordan Gottschalk and Brin's three runs.

The Monarchs are now 9-3 this season and will host Russell at 4 p.m. Tuesday in a doubleheader at TMP Field.
