All season, Thomas More Prep-Marian girls' golf coach Judy Mitchell said the Monarchs have struggled with consistency.

If they worked on the range, the short game went away. If the Monarchs were on the green, they lost the drive.

However, in TMP's final tune-up Monday before next week's Class 3-2-1A regional, Mitchell was pleased with her team's scores -- though they were a bit high --  at Smoky Hill Country Club.

TMP took sixth in its own invitational with a 476.

The Monarchs were paced by Monica Michaud, who came in at 110.

Taylor Dinkel finished at 117, Annaka Applequist at 123 and Hannah Michaud at 126 to round out the team score.

"I was pleased, especially with the four, five, six and seven girls," Mitchell said. "Their scores were much better than they have been.

"I would have liked to see Monica's and Annaka's scores a little bit lower. And Taylor's as well, but she's been a little sick."

Dinkel missed a tournament and left a tournament early last week due to illness.

In addition, Kayla Hockett fired a 123 to lead TMP's second team Monday, and Taryn Rupp finished at 126, both earning a spot in next week's regional.

"We just have to bring it all together," Mitchell said. "If we work on the driving range, the next tournament the putts are off. If we work on chipping and putting, the drives are terrible."

Kaleigh Ummel finished with a 127 in the No. 1 team's fifth spot. Gracie Wasinger also competed on TMP's second team and shot a 137.

For the most part on a perfect weather day Monday, Mitchell said the Monarchs' game stayed in the middle, something key as the Monarchs were lumped into the Syracuse regional with the defending state champion as host.

"It's probably one of the toughest regionals," Mitchell said. "(Syracuse) is just as good as they were last year."

Larned won Monday's invitational with a 411, paced by a third-place finish for Tiara Diaz. Russell, with the first- and second-place individual finishes, was second with a 414.

Russell's Alex Ptacek and Megan Boxberger tied with a 96, with Ptacek winning the tourney on a scorecard playoff.

Russell, which finished third last year in 3-2-1A, jumped to 4A this season and will compete in the regional at Colby next week. Ptacek, Boxberger, Janna Schulte, Russell's top three Monday, all were part of last season's state team. Schulte finished with a 111, along with teammate Taylor Hecker, to round out Russell's scoring.

Goodland finished fourth with a 432. Dayna Webring paced the Cowgirls with a 101.
