ELYRIA -- The Thomas More Prep-Marian boys' soccer team jumped on Elyria Christian in a hurry in Monday's season opener.
The Monarchs scored three goals in the first six minutes in a 7-0 victory.
"It was a barrage -- really quick," TMP coach Shawn Lawson said.
Senior Teddy Kang scored the first of his two goals in the second minute. Junior Colby Schippers scored in the fourth, and senior Jordan Maska made it 3-0 in the sixth minute.
TMP, which led 3-0 at halftime, got a goal from senior Regelio Gonzalez in the 48th minute. Kang scored his second goal of the day in the 50th. Senior Eric Choi scored in the 61st, and senior Paul Lim completed the scoring with a goal in the 71st.
Junior goalkeeper Drew O'Brien played the first 50 minutes in net, then played in the field while junior Jarett Mermis finished up in goal. Neither keeper made a save.
Lawson said the defense had an easy day due to the way the midfielders played.
"Our defense really didn't have to work hard," Lawson said. "The midfield really dominated."
TMP is off until Monday, when the Monarchs will play Salina South at 10 a.m. in the first round of the McPherson tournament.
