ELLIS -- The Thomas More Prep-Marian softball team ended a four game losing streak by sweeping Ellis High School in a doubleheader on Tuesday in Ellis, 10-1 and 17-9.

Despite only outhitting Ellis 6-3 in Game 1, the Monarchs rolled to the 10-1 victory after opening up a 5-0 lead after three innings. Three final runs in the top of the seventh finished it off.

Freshman Alison Helget pitched all seven innings for TMP and finished with six strikeouts. Brittney Bollig also put in a complete seven innings for Ellis, getting five strikeouts.

Game 2 was anything but a pitchers duel, with TMP outhitting Ellis 14-12. The Railers nine errors was the difference in the game.

TMP led 1-0 after a half inning, but Ellis responded with six runs in the bottom of the first and led 8-3 heading into the fourth inning. Then TMP scored three runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to make it 8-8 going to the sixth inning.

The Monarchs outscored Ellis 9-1 over the final two innings, getting four runs in the sixth and five more in the seventh.

Helget nearly put together another complete game, going six innings for TMP with seven strikeouts.

TMP (5-7) is off until next Thursday, April 24, when it travels to Ellinwood for a doubleheader.
